Green walls in homes are an expression of the fact that we want green to be more and more present in our interiors. They are a substitute for garden lovers for plants when you can't have a garden. They are also an interesting solution in large buildings such as shopping malls, large buildings of companies and organizations.
Advantages and limitations of vertical gardens
Plants at home or in the park improve air quality by purifying, moisturizing and producing oxygen. It affects our health and well-being well. The very fact that they are mounted on the wall surface allows you to save space, while maintaining a lot of greenery in the room. For this type of construction, companies involved in establishing such gardens offer and perform an automatic irrigation system. This means that the plants are watered spontaneously, and we do not have to remember about this activity. This greenery solution also has decorative qualities. It makes our space unique and exclusive. It is worth adding that green walls they are also walls made entirely of moss, which are perfect for minimalist interiors and whose care is practically not necessary. As for the restrictions they have green walls there are not many of them. However, at least for some plant lovers, the fact that not all are suitable for this form of planting can be a bit disappointing. This mainly applies when we decide on a modular system when it comes to assembly. Plants that grow more than tall should be selected. Plants whose roots tend to grow should not be used. Mostly gardening companies have a list of plants at their disposal that they tolerate this form of planting. If not, you should get information from a landscape architect. It is worth it, because it is a pity of plants and work around the green wall associated with frequent replacement of plants.
Methods of implementation
Installation of vertical gardens are several possible solutions. You can use either a system of modules made of plastic, HDPE aluminum or stainless steel. The most popular is the panel system consisting of a box and two pots. The boxes are connected to each other in such a quantity as to create the size of the wall that interests us. It is important that the pots cannot be exchanged for larger ones in this solution. The dimensions of the pot openings in the boxes do not allow this. Another way is the system of felt pockets, in which plants are planted directly without using pots. In this option, thanks to the type of felt weave, it is possible for the material to grow through the roots. The plant can grow here more than in a modular system. There is also a container system, but this one is not used in homes, it is suitable for large rooms and requires special scaffolding running through the entire floors of the building.
All of these solutions must meet certain conditions, namely they must be insulated from the wall. The best wood-resistant material like membrane or PVC board. Such insulation must ensure 100% tightness. It is also important to keep a gap of several centimeters between the wall and the structure itself. This involves ensuring adequate air circulation to prevent the formation of mold and fungi.
Before starting the implementation, specify the place in the house where the control box will be located. It does not have to be directly against the green wall. Water is brought to this place, and only then is the wall connection made.
Remember to provide adequate lighting for plants. This type of garden requires intense light. It is most convenient to put it on the wall where the sun operates the longest. If this is not possible, additional lamps simulating sunlight should be provided. For this purpose, white light should be used, and the light fixtures themselves should be placed approx. 150 cm from the wall.
In general, you can water the green wall yourself, but as already mentioned, it is most convenient to use an automatic irrigation system. Such a system creates a network of interconnected tubes that bring water and nutrients to the roots of plants. Our task is only to replenish fertilizer and nutrients in the tank from which water is taken. The entire irrigation system can be in the form of a closed circuit. The water tank is also made by a gardening company. A pump is placed in it, which at scheduled times switches on and pumps water onto the wall. The water circulates in a closed circuit and after watering the plants returns to the tank. Watering is started by a small controller connected to the socket. The second variant in the irrigation system is the open water circuit fed from the water supply. This option is most often used if it is possible to supply water and drain to the sewage system. The water supply should be made as close as possible to the center of the wall. Walking while just below the bottom collecting gutter. Possibilities of using green walls
There are a lot of them both when it comes to the rooms in which we can set up a vertical garden, and the arrangements themselves. The green wall will work well in living rooms, dining rooms, but also in halls and bathrooms. It can occupy the entire wall or appear in a small form, e.g. as a herbarium on the kitchen wall or a strip of green above the TV. They can take the form of images enclosed in elegant frames. In this edition, the arrangement of several such paintings on one wall, be it in one size or in different ones, will look nice. Freestanding panels are also available. They can be used as e.g. partition walls. This solution makes the plants on both sides of the wall. You also don't have to stick to the green when it comes to colors. You can choose plants with e.g. yellowish or red foliage. You can also paint plants created by the colors of flowers of flowering plants. This solution will work on larger areas of green walls.
